fluorchemicals south Africa

“Be part of the largest fluorochemical project development in the southern hemisphere”

Fluorchemicals South Africa Pty Ltd reg; 2021/941514/07 “FSA”, was incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in 2021 with vision of supporting the country to develop a sizeable fluorochemical industry. FSA was founded by executives and entrepreneurs with executive and operational experience in the Fluorochemicals, Energy, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical and government sectors all which intersect was incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to develop, own and operate a cumulative 100 000tpa fluorochemicals plant in South Africa.

The commercially scaled plants will produce high purity Anhydrous Hydrogen Fluoride (AHF) by 2027, elemental and Fluorine mixtures (F2), lithium salts including LithiumFluoroSulfonylImide (LiFSI), polymers including PolyVinyliDene Fluoride (PVDF) & PolyteTraFluoroEthylene (PTFEs), and refrigerants including Hydrofluoro-Olefins (HFO) and by 2030.

Fluorochemicals are critical in the follow segments;

Semiconductor/Electronics (production of semiconductors etc.)

Energy (Manufacture of new generation energy storage batteries for renewable energy and electric vehicles etc.)

Refrigerants (Refrigerant gases etc.)

Industrial (production of glass, aluminum, steel and other alloys etc.)

Fluoropolymers (Manufacture of advanced plastic compounds including Teflon, space components etc.)

Petrochemicals (production of A1 jet fuel etc.)

Pharmaceuticals/cosmetics (Manufacture of ARVs, cosmetics, antidepressants, analgesic preparations and antibiotics etc.)

Agriculture (manufacture of herbicides, pesticides etc.)

Construction (gypsum for self-leveling floors, partitions etc.)

Mining (removal of impurities in ores etc.)

South Africa has more than 50 years of fluorochemical experience albeit at pilot production scale mainly to support Research & Development(R&D). The country has an opportunity to leverage is abundant fluorspar resources, largest in the world and fluorochemicals knowhow to develop and grow market share from 0.005% to just under 3% by 2030.

The project has packaged a futureproofed portfolio of products by developing optimized production scale of products with mix of margins to enable average net margins to be in excess of 20%.

The project is expected to create 570 Direct jobs and 3000 Indirect jobs during operations and more than 3000 jobs during construction.

The project will transform South Africa into a truly global player in the high-tech fluorochemicals sectors.
